Corporate Citizenship: How Helping Your Community Helps Your Business
According to the 2004 Cone Corporate Citizenship Study, 8 in 10 Americans say that corporate support of causes wins their trust in that company. Furthermore, it showed that a company’s commitment to social issues was important when people decided: which companies they want to see doing business in their community; where they want to work; which products and services they will recommend to others; and in which stocks or mutual funds to invest. The 2008 Cone Cause Evolution Study found that during an economic downturn, Americans still expect companies to support social causes and nonprofit organizations. In fact, 78% of respondents expected companies to continue or even increase their pre-economic downturn levels of support.
